This paper is a reflection of the 'Seeing in the dark' project. It outlines the process, describes the installation, the project community and ownership, and evaluation tools used, and describes some significant outcomes. This resource provides informative guidelines about the socio-economic reintegration of mine victims. The guidelines have been divided into two major categories; the first category - pre-conditions for socio-economic reintegration - covers the topics of medical, psychological and rehabilitation services. The second category - target areas for socio-economic reintegration - includes psychosocial support, vocational rehabilitation, economic development, education and community integration and support. These guidelines are useful for policy makers and service providers interested in the socio-economic reintegration of landmine survivors

This report synthesizes the collective learning generated throughout the project of the legal frameworks for citizen participation. It is not a summary of all findings however it is an analysis that presents findings of the overall study about the significance, at supra-national and supra-regional levels, of legal and policy frameworks for citizen participation in local governance. This document summarises the outcomes of the international consultation. The main conclusions were that human rights play a role in CBR, CBR has to be supported by national governments, various sectors have to cooperate and that UN agencies, governments and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) have to promote CBR as a poverty re-education strategy

This report outlines the possible effects of direct payment schemes for disabled people. Direct payments essentially involve relevant statutory agencies giving cash to people with disabilities to purchase their own support services directly. They are designed to offer individuals with a disability significant choice and control over the type of service wanted and/or needed and so to enhance independence and autonomy. Direct payments primarily relate to the delivery of community care services, but employment supports and housing grants are also relevant and suitable to a direct payments system. This study reports on a critical review of current practice in services designed to provide information, advice and advocacy for older people. The information is derived from a literature search, a search of the websites of local authority and major voluntary organisations, and three focus groups involving older people living in sheltered housing and elsewhere in the community. Examples of good practice are highlighted and some recommendations are made for future action
