This report assesses the place of health in global economic development. Health is understood to be a central goal and an important outcome of development. It is also important to invest in health to promote economic development and poverty reduction. The report suggests a new strategy for investing in health for economic development in the world's poorests countries, based upon a new global partnership of developed and developing countries. Two important initiatives are required: a significant scaling up of resources spent in the health sector by poor countries and donors, and tackling non-financial obstacles, which limit capacity in poor countries to deliver health services

This manual has been written for people working in groups. It aims to offer suggestions and ideas to people and organisations who are beginning new groups, or planning to do so and who have limited experience of running a group. It will also be useful for trainers and facilitators who have been running groups for some time or who are helping others set up their own groups. It outlines 22 articles on obligations, international cooperation and ground rules in which States Parties are bound to comply. It states victim assistance duties for care and rehabilitation and stresses the role of public conscience for the ban of anti-personnel mines

World declaration on education for all and framework for action to meet basic learning needs

In 1990, delegates from 155 countries, as well as representatives from some 150 organisations agreed at the World Conference on Education for All in Jomtien, Thailand (5-9 March 1990) to universalise primary education and massively reduce illiteracy before the end of the decade. This is the World Declaration on Education for All: Meeting Basic Learning Needs, arising from the conference. Amongst other things, it recalls that education is a human right for all and recognises that traditional knowledge and indigenous cultural heritage have a value and validity in their own right and a capacity to both define and promote development
