This report of a study completed by the ILO in Malawi, South Africa and Zambia, examines access for persons with disabilities to acquire training and obtain employment. The study finds that if given opportunities to learn new skills, persons with disabilities are equally as likely to contribute to society and the overall economy as non-disabled persons. Recommendations are provided for government and non-government organisations. This report would be useful for governments, NGOs and practitioners interested in strategies for skills acquisition and work for persons with disabilities in southern Africa

This section of iTrainOnline's 'Multimedia training kit' (MMTK) is dedicated to reporting on HIV and AIDS. It consists of two units: the first, 'HIV/AIDS journalism and communication skills', aims to give participants the confidence and skills to communicate more effectively about HIV/AIDS research and other HIV/AIDS issues. The second, 'Finding and evaluating HIV/AIDS information on the internet', provides guidance on finding and evaluating the wide variety of HIV/AIDS information and resources available on the internet. The aims of this project report are to examine the contemporary position of disabled people in the labour market in Britain, to explore the work experiences of a number of disabled people and the impact of policy and practice on their life stories of work and to identify and disseminate the good practices of organisations such as Breakthrough UK Ltd and GMCDP in relation to promoting the work opportunities of disabled people. The report is based on a research project that brought together Breakthrough UK Ltd (BUK Ltd), the Greater Manchester Coalition of Disabled People (GMCDP), researchers from the Centre of Applied Disability Studies at the University of Sheffield and the financial support of the European Social Fund. This summary is based on the CHANGE Maternal Survival Toolkit, available online at: www.changeproject.org and on CD-ROM. It explores ways of influencing behaviours and encouraging use of health services and health professionals during childbirth and the postpartum period. A number of factors can prevent pregnant women from accessing skilled care, often putting themselves and the child at risk. They include availability of health services and high costs but also, and crucially, local culture, family and community behaviours and traditional practices. The CHANGE Project's approach and this document stress locally appropriate, behaviour-based interventions that integrate what is happening in homes, communities and health facilities. This tool is aimed at organisations and individuals working in the field of mother and child health, and willing to look at maternal and child survival issues from a behaviour change perspective
