This network seeks to strengthen child-centred research to contribute towards real improvement in children's well-being. It was founded in 1993 as a response from the research community to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. The Convention serves as a common agenda for research aimed at improving children's living conditions, well-being and participation. The aim of the website's Resources page is to compile lists of relevant links to child-centred research institutions, on-line research reports and journals, and bibliographies. The page is by no means complete, and the intention is to add links continuously. The Convention on the Rights of the Child was the first instrument to incorporate the complete range of international human rights, including civil, cultural, economic, political and social rights as well as aspects of humanitarian law. UNICEF has published this 'plain language' document as a guide to the Convention on the Rights of the Child. The Convention recognises a child as a person below the age of 18. Specific articles relate to early childhood development, such as article 7 on the right to a legally registered name, article 8 on the right to an identity and article 30 on the right of minority or indigenous children to learn about and practice their own culture, language and religion.
