These guidelines aim to assist practitioners and implementing partners to run Community Based Worker systems (CBW) more effectively, maximising impacts to clients of the service, empowering communities, empowering the CBWs themselves, and assisting governments to ensure that services are provided at scale to enhance livelihoods

The health journey is a tool that puts the a person with a health problem at the centre of the picture and maps their real-life experiences, highlighting what actually happens, as a starting point for community engagement and community-centred health service planning. This manual is divided into three sections, explaining what a health journey is and why it might be useful for understanding the experiences of people with HIV, how to set up and use the methodology and five examples of health journey workshops together with the impacts that resulted from them

Since establishing a programme in Nigeria in 1995, WANG and partners have tried several approaches to promoting sanitation which have not yielded sustainable changes. In its attempt to seek a more sustainable methodology, WANG initiated the pilot testing of the Community Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) approach which aimed to facilitate a participatory process of empowering local communities to improve their sanitation situation. This evaluation report assesses the efficiency, effectiveness and relevance of the CLTS programme, and recommends ways of improving and scaling up the programme in Nigeria. The evaluation provides wide ranging evidence that that CLTS is an effective approach to establishing hygiene and sanitation practice in Nigeria, but the effectiveness varied depending on certain conditions which will need to be taken into consideration when scaling up the initiative

This report argues that there needs to be a major increase in HIV prevention services across the world in order to stem the HIV epidemic. It looks at projections for the epidemic with and without a scaled-up prevention response, defines prevention 'scale-up', identifies barriers to achieving this and looks at four countries which have successfully overcome those barriers: Thailand, Brazil, Uganda and Senegal
